How was everyone's fourth? Good?

Yesterday we got up late, bought food, and barbequed outside with the old couple from a few apartments down, one half of the gay guys that live across the way, and my friend Renee who stopped by on her way back from her sisters. I ate too much (AGAIN) but it's a HOLIDAY and everything was soooo good! :-)

We also fed one of the teens that the gay guys are raising after he got off work (the Galleria was OPEN on the fourth, wtf?) and he ended up staying and talking for hours afterwards. He's thinking of joining the reserves and since D was in the army she did her best to scare him shitless answer all his questions.

I worked today, feh, but it's the first Saturday that work hasn't been swamped with people every second and I didn't feel like a hamster running on one of those little wire wheels and not getting anywhere.

So alltogether better than things have been going.

Things what make me happy in my heart:

+ Rediscovering 80's songs. Was True Blue by Madonna always that cool? How wonderful is Bronski Beat? God bless YouTube.

+ Ordering The Black Parade is Dead! YAY!!!!!!!! and fixing to order Echo #4 by Terry Moore. I know I have said it before but it will always bear repeating: if you have not read Strangers in Paradise by Terry Moore get thee to your nearest library, check it out, and READ. There are no words for the wonder that is Mr. Moore. I am convinced he was a woman in another life.
Echo is fabluous so far. I can't wait to see him at Comicpalooza at The Alamo Draft House on July 19th!

+ Wall*E was made of darling. Highly reccommended.

+ MORE RECCING!!! I have seen some of [livejournal.com profile] blondiusmaximus' work through [livejournal.com profile] bexless and I've read [livejournal.com profile] stereomer's fic, as well. So when Bex recced 'The Adventures of Gerard the Boy Princess of the Ocean and Frank the Italian Gentleman's Son Who Loves Him' hand to god I thought it was a written fic. However, it is BETTER. It is the most brilliant, cool, funniest illustrated AU you will ever read. Octopus Pete!!! Rock Lobster Patrick!!! BFF Ryan! All I could do was *flail!!!* *flap!!* at the genius of ! Go READ!!! Prepare to be slayed!!!

+ Finally, because it is late and I must lay in bed, if you have not heard of [livejournal.com profile] livelongnmarry go and take a look see. It is an auction started by fandom folk to help keep the California Gay Marriage initiative alive and inteact. There is lots of fic for auction but there are all sorts of things to bid on including care packages from different states, beta services, knit wear, original art, and even letters. Yeah, as in someone will write you an honest to god old fashioned letter every day for a a month or something. It's stuff like this that makes me love fandom so much. I am considering offering something but I'm not sure what. I'm for sure going to bid. You have until July 15 to do both. Go see! It's a great cause. :-)

OK, gente. I gotta go!

You all have a great rest of your holiday weekend and I'll talk at you later!

Considering the spectacular disaster that has been my week the fact that today is Friday the 13th seems almost anti-climactic.

I still have today and tomorrow before I have a day of reprieve.

I am also looking at some long weeks to come because it has been decided that we will be doing tours during the Summer. *faceplant* We dont' usually because we have so much other programming and so we save that for the school year. Well, what with the new shiny building the requests have become too numerous to ignore.

I think this will just burn us all out faster before we ever get to the Fall but no one asked me.

Oh, and I'm apparently doing a damned Saturday Outreach at St. JOhn's the v.v. expensive private school downtown on my Saturday OFF because that's the only time their catechism groups meets and they want me to do cards.

I am considering taking those anti-depressants the dr. gave me a while back. Or kite some off D. One of the two.

However, in better news...

+ If you have not read [livejournal.com profile] harriet_vane's awesome OTHER kidfic, The Negotiation Limerick File followed by The Grasshopper Unit you MUST! MUST! Because unless you do you cannot fully appreciate the to-die-for-cuteness of THESE DRAWINGS!!! They are MADE OF WONDERFUL! The artist's style has a bit of a Maurice Sendak feel. There are also handy icons for your pleasure. I plan to take a bunch. Go see and fanperson the [livejournal.com profile] _kiden! Ms. Vane's fic: the gift that keeps on giving. :-D

+ D rearranged the apartment as my anniversary gift and it feel 100% better in there. It's not finished; it's still kind of a disaster but the old dresser was finally changed out for the new dresser and I no longer whack my knee on the coffee table every time I walk from the living room to the bedroom. It's a great gift.

+ I have had a shiny new laptop for a few weeks but have been too exhausted to do much with it until recently. I'm not a Vista fan but it's not as bad as people say. At least not yet?
Shiny! *pets it* I think I will name it Frankie. ;-)

+ Have answered almost all the Embers fb comments. Such love! The next one is percolating in my had waiting for a week when I don't want to jump off a tall bridge.

I had more but I need to go turn stuff on. Everyone is on a 9-6 schedule on Fridays but it's getting close.

Ya'll take care and have a good weekend if I don't talk at you till later!

Yesterday was the day of amazing suckitude. I got into a snark fest with the horrid little queen that is our 'Interior Specialist' forgetting that one cannot win a pissing contest from a prick. And THEN, to make the suckitude more vivid, he overheard me venting about him at the desk to a couple of coworkers. I did not see him kneeling down behind the shevles until he stood up. *sigh*

Oh, but there's more.

D picks me up from work at 9 pm.; I am still not used to getting out that late. I wasn't in the car ten minutes when WE started to argue. I wasn't even sure what about, really. Well, later I found out what about and it just. I dunno. There aren't even any words for how tired I am of this.

Today is our anniversary and I couldn't feel less anniversarial. Or Whatever.

I have 72 kids coming for a storytime in two hours and I don't know if there will be fallout from my ill advised venting at the desk. *sigh*

I don't even want to venture how today can go. After having to take the bus to work when I thought I had a ride I had been feeling fairly chipper yesterday morning and look how that turned out.

And, you know, I like my job. This is far more than I could ever say about teaching the five years I did it. But days like yesterday make me wish my ambition gene wasn't broken and I really could commit myself to writing. Or something.

I'm just woolgathering now.

Must go set up the room for the teeming hoards.

Before I go the only bright spot yesterday was [livejournal.com profile] aresenicjade's fabulous Big Bang fic A Finer Command of Language. Exclusively Panic it takes a much used premise and crafts it as only she can. Brilliant.

You all send me good luck vibes now. I'll need them.

Who's made of win? Who bought a cream cheese coffee cake for breakfast and then forgot ALL HER MEDS today? Why, that would be me!

Ah, fuck.

It's a salad day. I don't mind salad days if it's my choosing but hate them if it's not.

However, in positive news..

+ THREE DAY WEEKEND WOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *dances* We have nothing more major planned than renting movies (yes, some of us still do that) and going to Office Depot to buy supplies for my still-quite-new cubicle. What? I LIKE that! Oh, and some cooking out. Mmm. BBQ.

Each holiday was marked by massive cooking out in my family growing up. No occasion was too small. Xmas? COOK OUT! Mother's Day? COOK OUT! Dallas is in the playoffs? COOK OUT! Tax refund in the mail? COOK OUT! This, more than anything, means I will never be a vegetarian. D got a used/new to us barbeque grill and it works great and I am muy excited.

For this weekend I erase the Grand ReOpening. I ERASE YOU!!!! *MINDSWIPE* :-D

+ I have 20 pages of the skaterboi fic written. Twenty! *tries not to scare writing muses* It's all [livejournal.com profile] harriet_vane's fault. Her wonderful continuation of her bandom story just shook loose all the cobwebs in my mind re: the fic. Good writing does that.

I can hear them in my head again. I missed them so. :-)

+ BIG PIMPING!!!!!!- Because if you have not read [livejournal.com profile] harriet_vane's latest part of her bandom epic...what is wrong with you? Are you headless? Have you no SOUL?!?!

Granted, you really have to read it from the very beginning but DO SO! The wonderfullness defies description. I don't care if you don't like MCR, or Panic, or FOB, or kid!fic (I KNOW! KIDFIC!!!) but this is brilliant and funny and happy and sad and amazing.

Linkage for your convenience:

Forever Now, the start of the saga. Gerard and Mikey as kids and Brian Schecter as their savior. What more wonderfullness can there be?

Star Shaped Brendon's story, complete with aloof Ryan and snarky Spencer. I'm not even that big a Panic fan and I loved this.

The Lines You Amend starts here and there's links to the next one at the bottom, just one perk Rachel offers you.
There are just not enough words for how much I love this series and how much it draws you in right away, immediately. I defy you to react otherwise, no matter who you are.

So thank you, Ms. Vane, for all you do.

And now I go.

If I don't holler at you all this weekend (tho I totally hope to) have a great holiday and cuidense!

May you crazy kids have all the luck.

Seriously, tho, what is it with all these emo kids being marriage happy? Really, now. Not even HANSON went through all three brothers this fast.

But at least there is Bob. We luv you, Bob.

I survived the First Look Schmooze-Fest at the library )

I also just found out there was some kind of kerfluffle about misogyny (however the fuck you spell that) on SPN. Really? What? Oh, yeah. Dean called the demon chicks Ruby and Bela 'skank' and 'slut' a few times.

Um. I just kinda attributed that to the 'demon' thing instead of the 'chick' thing. Maybe that makes me un-aware or something, but I thought it fit the characterization they'd set up to that point? And also, aw hell, people. He was fixing to DIE and he'd known that for a YEAR and no one ever set him up as the most progressive guy on the planet. What did you want? He is perfect in his imperfections. That's one of the things I've always loved about his character: Sam is the aware one and Dean is more good 'ol boy. So shoot me. *shrugs*

In closing, [livejournal.com profile] mayatawi wrote Ironman slash. Tony/Jarvis. As in, the voice of his computer system. Dude. It is AWESOME. You have to take my word for it. Go. Read. Feedback. You'll be glad you did.

I say goodbye, gente.

Have a good Monday and I'll talk at you later.

I love her. I love that her body is curvy and sexy and that she is bi-racial and proud of it and that her voice is amazing. I want to be her. Or also, I want her. Either one would be ok. ;-D

So, in other news...

+ My paid account expired and I'm down to six iconses. )

Comments? Suggestions? I'm still thinking.

+ BOOK PIMPIN': I have just finished the book Betwixt by Tara Bray Smith and it was one long, dark, cool ride replete with teen angst, changelings, evil faeries, and really fascinating characters. It's not exactly like the STORY is really, really dark, tho there is that. It's more like the aura is dark; the tone, the hue. But not gratuitously so. She is writing a sequel and I'm so there. Good choice.

+ The high today is 76 degrees Jesus Christ and all the saints. I just want some cold weather. Just a little. Just enough forme to wear my pretty winter sweaters without sweating to death. Is that too much to ask??? 76 degrees!!! Holy shit.

+ REC ME STUFF, YA'LL!! SPN, FOB, MCR, Harry Potter. I seem to be a bit off the Hancest for now, but Hanson slash otherwise, yeah. I am suffering a tragic absence of reading material since [livejournal.com profile] harriet_vane's series has wrapped and [livejournal.com profile] arsenicjade's series has (I believe) wrapped and WOE!

+ I can't believe the Golden Globes were cancelled. Wow. I hope this helps the writer's strike.

+ In closing, the rather severe looking chick in the army uniform was the gf of my suitemate in college and, though we have nothing in common now and don't hang out at all, she was instrumental to my coming out and being really proud and ok with myself. No, she did not always look that butch. :-} I'm glad she is doing this because she always had a great deal of anger with how she left the service; this sounds like a positive move. Blast from the past, Shelby!!! Check it out!!!

OK, gente.

I gotta go pretend like all I don't want to do is write more Embers, which has actually been working for me, so! Cuidense and I'll talk at you later!
